greek lesson of the day: from Matthew 5 , the Beatitudes: Μακάριοι οἱ πτωχοὶ τῷ πνεύματι (pneumati )...βασιλεία (basileia )...οὐρανῶν (ouranōn, heaven) ... two interesting words in this verse about "blessed are the poor in spirit (pneumati) , for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (ouranon or οὐρανῶν) " ...as you see 'spirit' comes from πνεύματι pneumati....
pneumos in medicine often refers to the lungs and breathing...which is the essence of life..; & kingdom comes from basileia (hence "basilica" in modern english) ...; Jesus deprived Himself of His very life on earth for our sake..that's the ultimate act of being 'poor in Spirit' ..; and He has the highest position in the Kingdom of Heaven next to God (& one with God).. ; given such, what can we as Christians deprive ourselves of to a lesser extent for the sake of others & for the sake of the Kingdom. ?
