Since my dad is a CRC (Christian Reformed Church ) pastor (semi-retired) i thought I would talk to people who make false assumptions about pastors.
1) he's not stern at home
2) he drinks a little. His favorite whiskey used to be southern comfort
3) when we were kids he still had rock albums..the kind that spin on a record player, Incl " 3 dog night"
4) he enjoyed some popular tv shows back in the day incl a tv show called "mannix"
5) he doesn't swear much but i've heard him swear a few times, and remember him losing his temper a few times when I was a child, but not much at all since then.
6) he doesn't read the bible all day. I wish he'd read it more now that he's retired
7) he played college basketball & didn't really want to go to seminary. He first went to another university for a masters degree in counseling, then finally followed his "call" to seminary.
8) he doesn't really like preaching (at least not in the traditional or stereotypical manner). He likes talking about kindness.
9) he apparently took the required greek & hebrew but I've NEVER heard him ever make reference to "the greek" in any of his messages or at the kindness conferences he used to sponsor (i wish he would sometimes) .
